My PRK Experience – Part 5: 3 Days Post-Op

I had corrective eye surgery done a few months ago so my eyes have already stabilized. The next few posts are my experience and will be posted weekly (hopefully) so that you don’t need to wait months to find out what it was like for me. The posts about my PRK surgery are based on the notes I left myself while I was healing.

April 18, 2015

My vision worsened a lot. Day 4 after the surgery is when people say their eyesight is the worst (pre-contacts removal). The feeling of the foreign object under the contact lenses was replaced with the feeling of an ingrown eyelash around the top inside corner of my left eye. Resisting the urge to rub my eyes was a worthy challenge. I prevailed but just barely.

audiobooksThe night before was the last day to take the Acuvail drops but I continued with the other medicated eye drops and lubricating drops. This was also the day I had the ghosting effect. Ghosting is akin to seeing double except I differentiated it by seeing one of the images as a faded image, like when you try to take a photo of a car zooming by. While my eyes didn’t feel as sensitive to light the previous days, I still preferred to sit in a dark room. As the day wore on, my eyesight got worse. This was frustrating. I wasn’t seeing clearly as it was before but to have it get even worse and not be able to put on a pair of glasses was pissing me off. I must have been really pissed. In my brief notes about April 18th I wrote that I f*cking hated the audio book I was listening to because the main character was a brat and listening to the male voice actor try to convincing imitate a female tone. Also I couldn’t tell who was speaking some times because there was no real indication or tonal inflection that the speaker was so-and-so. I stopped listening to that book and started listening to a fictional one about a dog but I had to stop that too because the beginning was making me cry.
